Recap: Dallas Burlesque Festival

The Dallas Burlesque Festival was a blast!! I feel sorry if you missed it because it was so much fun! Amber Deville ended up wearing a PVC bustle I made (which I have yet to put them up for sale but I will soon) for the live model fashion shoot. She looked FAB in it!! I met a lot of new people and saw some friends.

Here is a video put together of the live model photoshoot. I wish I knew who to give credit for this awesome video. This isn't exactly safe for work so be careful where you watch it ;)

I also got interviewed while vending for a burlesque documentary. For those that know me know I can be pretty shy in person. This was NO exception! I BOMBED it so bad that it will be embarassing if they put it in the video haha. Everything they asked seemed to make my mind go blank so there were a lot of 'uhms' in there. Horrible haha! Well anyway here is a photo from it

I just wanted to add one more photo I took of the outside of the theater.

Texas Theater - Once owned by Howard Hughes the theater is also infamous for having been the scene where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Lonestar Round Up

Going into the 8th year for Lonestar Round Up you know this wont be a disappointment. Pinups, rods, bands and vendors what more could you ask for? I'm going on the road again and joining Texas Tarts for a booth in Austin at this awesome show! Don't be surprised if you see stars there. This is the show I got a picture with Jesse James....SCORE! :)

Wine on the Roof 2009

This is a benefit for the orphans of East Lake Pet Orphanage. I will not be vending but joining 5 other designers in making pet clothing for a dog runway show. This is really a great cause and I can't wait to see these dogs strut their stuff down the runway.

Hotrod and Heels

This is a first year show but definitely one that will stand out. This show is geared towards the old school scene in Dallas and will showcase burlesque dancers, pin up models, hotrods, vendors, and classes not just from Dallas but all over Texas. Jesse from 102.1 The Edge will be emcee for the night and the show will wrap up with Angela Ryan, Dayna DeLux, Ric Moore, Tiffany Diamond, and Eric Hall being the judges for the nights awards.

The lovely Dolly Dangerous and Amber DeVille will be modeling my designs down the runway. They both are wonderful dolls and something you don't want to miss. Tickets are on sale at hotrodsandheels.eventbrite.com. Get them now because they might be sold out opening night.

Poisoned Creations has gone a new route! Poisoned Creations will now be a place to buy women's and men's clothing as well as pasties, prayer candles and still some of the old stuff like the pillows, aprons, clutches and purses.

As of right now there are new clothing for women on my etsy. Please go check it out. I will be listing men's shirts as well so be on the look out for that.

New Year...New Everything

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I have blogged. With the new year comes new everything as the title says. With new regulations starting next month Poisoned Creations is forced to stop selling baby items. The government passed a law that all items for children under the age of 12 has to be tested (mainly for lead). Unfortunately for the DIY world this means lots of people will be closing up shop. With testing starting in the hundreds people can no longer afford to run as a small business. It's very sad because I know myself as well as others would never use materials unsafe for children. Since as of late we have had a lot of items imported from China contaminated with lead. It's sad to know that American's are being punished for this as well even though it's coming from outside the country. With that being said this is pushing me to do what I actually started sewing to begin with....clothes. I've sewn tons of dresses, skirts and tops for myself and daughter and that's what I started first with. There has always been lot's of competition in that area but now more then ever I should jump in. I've also done men's button up bowling type shirts and have had a great response with them. Some have even had a sneak peek if you were at Pistons and Paint, Urban Street Bazaar and Deck the Halls. My line is still geared towards the rockabilly and rock scene of course ;)

Keep an eye out...modeling pictures are being done this weekend.

As for the immediate future I'm looking forward to doing Texas Thaw, Lonestar Round Up, Funky Finds, Hotrod and Heels and a very cool runway show called The Pin Show. Now this is of course if I am accepted to these shows so keep your fingers crossed :)

I hope this year to be the biggest yet for me!!

Tombspawn is a special edition sock monster he is actually a zombie! He has stitches and patches on various parts of his body. His left arm has been severed and all that is left is a stump. His eye is dangling by a dead black vein and his mouth has drooped due to his dead skin.

Texas Thaw

Looking back on the whole day I have to say it was a great show. We arrived at the show at 9:00am and as soon as I stepped out of the car I was scared. See I had checked the weather the day before and it was suppose to be 70 degrees and nice. Well once I stepped out of the car it was freezing and windy....extrememly windy. We set up the tent and that was a no go due to the wind. Things were flying around and it was extrememly fustrating. Even with all those complications (and worrying my toes would freeze off since I was wearing sandles)the people there were just great! I met a lot of people that day and had a blast talking with Tara from Tara to the T, Jodi from Binge and Purge and the girls from Empire Pin-up. The Torques ran a real smooth show and the drag racing was insane. My daughter didn't get to make it to the show due to the weather but we sold her magnets anyway and believe me they were going pretty fast! Towards the end of the day the weather got a little warmer and it ended up being a great show. I got some cool trade modeling photos out of it also.

That's right we are hitting the road and going down to our capitol for this show. This is the 7th year for Lonestar Round Up and the Kontinentals out do their selves every time. This is the biggest old school car show in the area and everyone from all around comes out for a great time. For this show Poisoned Creations is teaming up with The Texas Tarts and Tara to the T to bring you awesome wares. You definitely don't want to miss our booth because I guarantee you will find something your little heart desires. There will be bands playing through out the day, a burlesque show, swap meet, vendors and of course my husband will be there shooting for Car Kulture Deluxe and Ol' Skool Rodz.

When: April 4th-5th

Make Cupcakes Not War

This weekend we did a little baking. My daughter loves to help bake and just do crafty things in general so I decided to do a cupcake decorating night so she can have some fun. While the boys played Rock Band the girls got down and dirty with some icing and sprinkles. If you have kids I would suggest this for a night in...mine had a blast and loved showing hers off. Not to mention the sweet reward of gobbling them down and getting icing all over her face ♥

I'm thinking I'll have to do a cupcake party in the near future...hehe

New Year = New Shows

This year is already starting off great...2 shows right around the corner. It's what I love! Now it's time for me to work like a mad woman and get ready to make it the best. I can't wait! If you are in the area stop by...both are very different from each other and both are guaranteed a great time!

The Etsy Dallas Valentines Trunk show is first on my list this year. Etsy Dallas established in 2007 and so far has 64 members. The group is made up of local artists, crafters and artisans who sell their wares on Etsy.com. Come out, have fun and keep it local.

Over 30 local artists and artisans featuring: jewelry, soap, bags & purses, home decor, fashion accessories, art, dog goodies, baby items, journals, stationery and so much more!

Two weeks after that is Texas Thaw...Yay car show season starts! This is NOT a craft event but a pre-1964 car show and drag racing event. The Torques car club is holding this event in Denton, TX at the race track. This is the first year for this event but all I have heard are great things. The scene in Texas is amazing and the people are great and always know how to have a good time! Pushrod will be performing as well as onsite tattoos by Ink Inc.

Sock Monsters...the rage!

I want to introduce some new friends that seem to be VERY popular at shows I vend at. They are called sock monsters and are cool in a twisted way. They are made from a pair of socks and have miss-matched button eyes. Some have tales some don't and each one is unique in their own way. Ever wonder when you do laundry and you lose socks where they go??? Well now you know ;)

Deck the Halls

Deck the Halls was amazing! The Texas Tarts and Armhole did a great job. The day ran by smooth from the vendor aspect and you can tell they really put in a lot of time to make it successful. The vendors were great and friendly...one reason I love the Dallas indie scene. I had a ton of people mention they seen my myspace page or read my bulletins and that's cool...go myspace for free advertisement!

My daughter has always been a crafty little one. From as soon as she could pick up crayons she always loved to color and draw. She loves to get art sets and play with them. Her line has been "when I grow up I want to be creative like you." That alone amazes me. I'm glad she appreciates what I do but of course anything new I make she HAS to have the first one haha. Well with her wanting to make things and sell like her momma I thought of the perfect project. With the help of Brooke from Crossbones Couture giving me tips I decided to buy the materials for her to make Bubble Magnets. They actually are pretty cool and she loved making them. She made out pretty well and only had a few left. I will probably throw them up on my etsy so she can still sell them since the next show is a ways away.

Thanks to the Texas Tarts and Armhole for putting on a great event and to all the people who stopped by my booth to say hi. Also a big thank you to my brother and sis-in-law for helping out so I could go see my baby's cheer competition and all the people who supported her first adventure in sales.

This past weekend was my best show yet!! I was a vendor at Pistons and Paint and let me tell you the Chupacabras put on a awesome show! The vehicles were awesome the people were cool and the music was great! I was almost left with a bare table. I bought an awesome piece of art work from the great Crash. I'll post a picture of it soon. Nice meeting everyone that stopped by!

Halloween Party

My daughter had a Halloween party this past weekend and boy was it a packed house! So many kids showed up and they all had a blast. We played games...pin the nose on the mummy, hot pumpkin, wrap the mummy and of course we had an eye ball pinata. The kids couldn't be any cuter! Along with the traditional costumes...vampire, princesses, fairies, super heroes we also had a few celebrities show up...Vanessa Hudgens, Hannah Montana, Raven from the Cheetah Girls and Brett Farve. Below are some of the pictures from the party.

My favorite decoration had to be the witches bottles. I made labels off of Word and just stained them to look old with tea bags. I'll share my secrets but being kids they asked if the stuff was real and of course I said yes so for them it was believable :)

* Snake Venom - I took out the sponge thing from a green highlighter marker and soaked it in water. Came out a great green effect.
* Mountain Gnome Snot - Just slime from Wal-mart
* Curses - Water and food coloring to make black
* Baby ogre eyes - Plastic eyeballs with a little bit of green food coloring in water
* Pixie bones - Flour with some glitter in it since pixies are magical
* Crypt dirt - just that dirt
* Bat's blood - a bottle of blood from the halloween store
* Spider eggs - Cheese cloth rolled into a ball and soaked with mod podge
* Love potion - A very little bit of red food coloring in water to look pink with glitter
* Poison - just a bottle spray painted with a flat black
* Pixie wings - leaves painted white

All this set off with a cauldron (but of course what else would a witch mix her potions in), spider webs, spiders and my skulls. All the bottle lids were painted a flat black and either wrapped in rope or tied for old look. I plan to add more bottles each year so if you have any ideas let me know :)

I'm on a new board!

After the closing of CUTI Brooke from Crossbones Couture introduced me to a new board. It seems real cool and has cool people on it. I just started posting so come on and join! Below is the link you know you want to click it and join!

I'm sad to see CUTI go. I will definitely miss some of the people if they don't sign up for this board and the craft swaps.

Welcome to my thoughts and projects!

This is my first post and wanted to share a little about me and my family. My name is Kim I live in Dallas, TX. with my husband Bobby and 7 year old daughter Leila. My husband does photography for several publications - Mini Truckin', CK Deluxe, Diesel Power, Truckin', etc. My daughter is into cheerleading and spends quite a bit of time doing that. She also is following in her mom's footsteps in being crafty. She has always been into drawing and doing that kind of stuff and now that she is a bit older and able to she likes doing those craft sets. I have a full-time job and run a business on the side selling a lot of my projects called Poisoned Creations. I make baby bibs, blankets, pillows, headbands, clutches, purses, aprons and necklaces all with an edge. They contain skulls, cherries, day of the dead, pin up girls, cars, leopard or zebra print. All inspired by my love of music, culture, tattoos and custom vehicles but that's not to say I only sew. I love doing Mod Podge projects, stenciling shirts, turning old vinyl records into bowls and wrecking anything I can. So sit back and enjoy my thoughts and projects.
